We are delighted to welcome Jon to the Boson Web team. Jon joins our team as the Senior Web Designer where he will be responsible for creating and designing intuitive, modern and functional websites.
Jon brings a wealth of experience having worked on every aspect of design. He understands what not only makes a website look great using trending design patterns but also how to implement them. He will be a very valuable member of the team, bringing a fresh perspective to projects and playing a big part in the website process.
In welcoming Jon we thought we would ask him a few questions to get to know him better;
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you’ll be doing for Boson Web?
To summarise; I’m a designer, coffee lover, gamer, lego builder, gardener and a family man.
I graduated in Graphic Design from the Southampton Solent University in 2007. Over the past 10 years, I’ve worked with a variety of big brands, just to name a few: Miele, Honda, John Lewis, Disney and Marvel.
At Boson Web, I will be the Senior Web Designer which will include helping clients visualise exactly what they want before it is developed by the rest of the team.
Outside of work, what do you do for fun?
I am a keen gardener and grow a wide variety of vegetables and flowers from seed. Some are a lot harder to grow than others, nurturing a seed into a mature plant takes time and persistence but there’s a great sense of achievement seeing it flourish. Next year, I will be focusing on different Dahlia flowers and Chillis.
Aside from gardening, I enjoy spending time with my family, whether that be a day out or Pokemon hunting with my son, I’m always kept busy!
Do you have any go-to music when you’re working?
I’m not fussy really, I’m happy to listen to whatever but if I had to choose a genre I’d say early 90s hip-hop or 80s pop. You can’t beat a bit of Beastie Boys or 99 Red Balloons by Nena.
Describe a typical day for you in the office?
My workday begins at my desk with a nice hot cup of coffee, and a quick look through my Panda Feeds (www.usepanda.com) it’s a great tool for keeping up-to-date with the latest design news and trends.
I would say there is no ‘typical’ day for me. My day varies depending on my schedule, some days I’m meeting with clients facilitating design days, working with them to visualise what their business needs. Other days, I dive straight into a project I’m working on, bringing the clients vision to life. Regardless, I’m always scamping ideas down in my notebook.
In terms of working environment, my desk is overlooking the lake at the Glove Factory, so I can’t complain about the view, looking out onto acres of fields full of wildlife, I can’t wait for the Spring/Summer to see how it all changes.
Fun fact about yourself?
I have built LEGO models for DHL and I’m a LEGO Ambassador. I have contact with the LEGO group and have the responsibility of sharing news or announcements that they pass onto me with the various LEGO communities around the UK.
Best advice you’ve ever got?
My dad once said to me don’t work for free, and I have always stuck by this.
Have you seen any industry trends recently that inspired you?
I am a big fan of gradients or colour transitions – see example below.
I have been using this styling on a current project for a client, it doesn’t work with every job but it certainly does make things stand out when it works.
We hope Jon has settled in well and we think he is already proving to be a great asset to Boson.
